Overview
The primary objective of the Essential course is to develop an understanding of Graston Technique© therapy (GT) and how to apply it into the full spectrum of musculoskeletal treatment approaches. The course also instructs clinicians on the proper use of the instruments.
By the end of the training, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Graston Technique© brand instruments, GT treatments, potential effects, and benefits.
- Identify and discuss the indications, contraindications (relative and absolute) of GT.
- Review and develop a better understanding of soft tissue injury, healing and potential reactivity to instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (therapeutic and adverse).
- Develop skill and competence in the GT application of IASTM to the major regions of soft tissue.

3 HOUR PRECOURSE
Participants will identify & discuss the effects, benefits, physiological responses, indications & contraindications for the Graston Technique® therapy.- Welcome and introduction to technique
- History, physiological rationale of IASTM, principles relating to soft-tissue dysfunction
- Indications & contraindications
- Anticipated responses and results from using GT instruments on soft-tissue conditions
Participants will observe & then demonstrate proper handholds and treatment strokes using GT instruments.
- Introduction to the six GT stainless steel instruments
- Description of each instrument
- Proper handholds and treatment strokes
- Lab instruction in scanning, sweeping, strumming, brushing, swiveling, scooping, j-strokes and framing on anterior thigh
- How to make a soft-tissue assessment using the GT scanner
